Gas condensation in brightest group galaxies unveiled with MUSE

چکیده
The origin of the cold gas in central galaxies groups is still a matter debate. We present Multi-Unit Spectroscopic Explorer (MUSE) observations 18 optically selected local ( z ? 0.017) brightest group (BGGs) to study kinematics and distribution optical emission-line gas. MUSE reveal morphologies including ten complex networks filaments extending up ?10 kpc two compact (< 3 kpc) five extended (> 5 disk-dominated structures. Some rotating disks show rings elongated structures arising from disk. stellar component mainly rotation-dominated, which very different disturbed found filamentary sources. ionized kinematically decoupled for most systems, suggesting an external also find that H ? luminosity correlates with molecular mass. By exploring thermodynamical properties X-ray atmospheres, we are systems small entropy values, K , t cool / eddy ratios. This suggests that, similar cluster (BCGs) core clusters, associated them likely formed hot halo condensations via thermal instabilities, consistent chaotic accretion simulations (as shown C ratio, Ta k plot). note presence gaseous more frequent than BCGs. An explanation those objects contribution fueling by wet mergers or satellites, as qualitatively hinted at some sources sample. Nonetheless, discuss possibility could be transition stage evolutionary sequence filaments, disks, described condensation models cooling flows.

How special are Brightest Group and Cluster Galaxies?
We use the Sloan Digital Sky Survey to construct a sample of 625 brightest group and cluster galaxies (BCGs) together with control samples of non–BCGs matched in stellar mass, redshift, and color. We investigate how the systematic properties of BCGs depend on stellar mass and on their privileged location near the cluster center. The groups and clusters that we study are drawn from the C4 catalo...
متن کاملZooming in on the Coma Cluster with Chandra: Compressed Warm Gas in the Brightest Cluster Galaxies
The Chandra image of the central region of the Coma cluster reveals that both its dominant galaxies, NGC 4874 and NGC 4889, retain the central parts of their X-ray gas coronae. The interstellar gas with a temperature of 1– 2 keV is confined by the hot intergalactic medium of the Coma cluster into compact clouds (only 3 kpc in radius) containing 108 M⊙ of gas. The physical state of the gas in th...
متن کاملRadial kinematics of brightest cluster galaxies
This is the first of a series of papers devoted to the investigation of a large sample of brightest cluster galaxies (BCGs), their kinematic and stellar population properties, and the relationships between those and the properties of the cluster. We have obtained high signal-to-noise ratio, long-slit spectra of these galaxies with Gemini and WHT with the primary purpose of investigating their s...
متن کاملIonized nebulae surrounding brightest cluster galaxies
We present integral field spectroscopic observations of six emission-line nebulae that surround the central galaxy of cool core clusters. Qualitatively similar nebulae are observed in cool core clusters even when the dynamics and possibly formation and excitation source are different. Evidence for a nearby secondary galaxy disturbing a nebula, as well as AGN and starburst driven outflows are pr...
متن کاملThe 1000 Brightest HIPASS Galaxies: Newly Cataloged Galaxies
The H i Parkes All-Sky Survey (HIPASS) is a blind 21-cm survey for extragalactic neutral hydrogen, covering the whole southern sky. The HIPASS Bright Galaxy Catalog (BGC; Koribalski et al. 2002) is a subset of HIPASS and contains the 1000 H i-brightest (peak flux density) galaxies. Here we present the 138 HIPASS BGC galaxies, which had no redshift measured prior to the Parkes multibeam H i surv...
